Soft Shimmer with Clarins

Wearing: Clarins Rouge Brillant in Hot Fuchsia

Wearing: Joli Rouge Brillant in Hibiscus

Photos by Ty

I was really excited when we were asked to try the New Jolie Rouge Brillant Lipstick, because we honestly love Clarins (as I have mentioned before, I use the Double Serum every night).

Lately, we have been wearing a lot of matte lipsticks, but with those you lose out on the moisture. With the weather heating up, matte can be seriously miserable. This lipstick has mango oils to soften and hold in moisture, so it's perfect to use instead of plain lip balm when you want a bit of color.

Texture-wise, this lipstick almost feels like a gloss except that it is smooth without the stickiness. It is fairly sheer, but buildable. I was surprised how rich the fuchsia color actually was on after a couple swipes. You can see the texture of the lipstick in the swatches below.

The lipstick is available in ten colors...so check them all out!

Put a Bow on It

On Mal: c/o Belted Shawl-Collar Blazer • $168, Forever 21 Statement Necklace (not online, but purchased recently in-store), Comme Des Garcons Play Striped Long Sleeve Tee, J. Crew Lookout Skinny Jeans, c/o Public Desire Karis Flats (also similar below), Chloe Mini Faye

Shot with A7s with a helios 44-2 (love how vintage-y it looks)

I originally got this blazer in white, but it felt too karate-kid for me, so I swapped it for the black.  I like this blazer because it feels like it can be dressed up or down.  I don't have to dress up for work, but I do value versatility, and this works perfectly for day or for dinner.

Plus, I definitely feel more grown-up wearing it...my boyfriend said I looked 'bossy' lol.

Shopping Guide // Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale

The Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale is one of our favorites.  It ranks with ShopBop Friends and Family and the seasonal Zara sales.  If you remember, it is where Mal got her pink pants worn in the last post! With up to 40% off, you can score some big-ticket items.  It is our favorite time to splurge (albeit way less than we would at full-price) on sunglasses and bags.  That being said, there are also a ton of more reasonably priced items that are worth browsing the site for!

In case you are overwhelmed by the hundreds and hundreds of sale pages, we have rounded up our favorite shoes and accessories below! (For some reason we couldn't get the Coach bag into the widget, so shop it here!)

Wearing the Pants

On Mal: Forever 21 Lace top (old, but I found what looks like the SAME top...link below), Chelsea Wide Legged Cropped Trousers (old, similar linked below), Zara Patent Gold Sandals, Vintage LV bag

Photos by Rene

I must be getting tired of jeans...lately I have been getting into pants again.  I feel like the last few months I have been in a style rut, basically wearing jeans everyday.  Now I have rediscovered these pepto pants (also wore here) and bought a second pair of Ann Taylor Culottes when they went on sale.

I usually find it easier to buy tops (because most tops will go with jeans) but have a harder time buying pants because a 'statement' pant seems harder to style.  That being said, bridging out into different styles of pants makes me feel like I have expanded my wardrobe.  Tops can be dressed up or down when paired with  different pants.  This lace top being a case in point...I nabbed it for $8 (plus it was BOGO...so more like $4) but I feel like it looks way more expensive when paired with this pleated pair.

INSPO // Lace

As the weather is heating up, we can more realistically think about wearing lace tops and dresses sans coats or sweaters. Love how each of these looks above are 'non-traditional' lace or crochet...with geometric cutouts and puffed sleeves. Click the images to go to the source!

Easy Breezy

On Mal: c/o Lou & Grey Softstretch Linen Pants in Desert Sand, Forever 21 Hoop Necklace and Off-the-Shoulder Top, Chloe Mini Faye, J. Crew Strappy Sandals (all links below!)

Photos by Ty

Some days (when it is very warm), I don't want to wear jeans.  I also don't love (or even own many) shorts, so these linen pants are the perfect alternative.  They are super comfortable without looking too lazy.  I think dressing it up with an off-the-shoulder top helps with that as well.

This pair of pants is from Lou & Grey, which I hadn't realized was originally Loft's 'leisure' line.  I think all their designs reflect that origin...super comfortable, but still stylish.  I do recommend sizing down (and also they have petites!).

Shopping Guide // Off-The-Shoulder Tops

We love that off-the-shoulder tops are back.  It's nice to have an alternative neckline to play with for Spring.  Whit nabbed that Zara top above, and Mal just had to copy :p  Shop our favorite picks above, and check below for some more options!

Culottes

On Mal: Ann Taylor Stiched Stripe Wide Leg Pants (in Petite), H&M Geometric Print Top (old), ChloĆ© Mini Faye Bag (purchased from LuisaViaRoma with a gift certificate won from LookMazing!), Ralph Lauren Collection Platform Espadrilles (old, similar), Lips: NYX Lip Lingerie in Exotic

Photos by Rene

I hadn't been in Ann Taylor recently, so when I wandered in with my sister when I was visiting her in Seattle I was surprised how 'hip' it has become.  They have some really cute stuff this season...  someone needs to talk me out of buying this floral set.  They also have a ton of culottes (although they are calling them 'wide leg ankle pants'), which I am normally afraid of because of my height, but they carry them in petites!  These were 50% off in-store, so with my sister's encouragement that I 'looked tall' I decided to go for it.

Even with my sister insisting that I looked tall with my flats, I decided to take no chances and paired them with these platform wedges I got years ago at DSW.  I haven't worn them in forever, so the blogger brunch before the WhoWhatWear #bossnotes event last Saturday was the perfect excuse.
