Lace and Mini for the Holidays

lace cami layered mini skirt outfit

On Whit: Oak + Fort Lace Cami, Banana Republic turtleneck sweater, McQ purse, Forever 21 pleather mini skirt (old), Stuart Weitzman NearlyNude Sandals

Happy Holidays! For my holiday party outfit this year, I strayed away from the usual sparkle and sequins with a more understated neutral colored look with blue heels.  I'm deathly afraid of the cold and nip slips, so I layered a mock neck sweater undearneath a lace cami.

Holiday Brocade

on Mal: Anthropologie brocade dress (old, similar below), Gucci GG Marmont Bag (sold out, similar below), Banana Republic Faux Rabbit Scarf, H&M Lace Up Flats (sold out...might still be in store!), Soko Rembo Cuff

Photos by Ty

I found this dress on super sale at Anthro earlier this year, and although it is not the most versatile piece, I decided to go for it.  I have worn it a total of two times...once for a dinner out in NYC, and then yesterday for Christmas.   My mom commented that I looked awful fancy to be peeling and mashing potatoes.

I hope everyone had a warm and relaxing holiday! Can't wait until 2017 <3

Foreo Luna 2 Professional Review

As Mal mentioned in her journey to clear(er) skin, we both suffered from acne through our college years and more.  I became very invested in trying new serums, treatments, and technology to improve my skin texture.  The Luna 2 was one of them.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, the Foreo Luna 2 is a facial cleansing and anti-aging device that promises to unclog pores of 99.5% impurities and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Read my honest review after the jump!

Wine Country Getaway with Maven

On Sunday we took a quick day trip to St. Helena c/o of Maven.  Maven is GM's new carshare app, which just launched in San Francisco.  There are pickups around the city (mostly near downtown), and once you download the free app and sign up, you can find a car and reserve it by the half-hour...there is no membership fee. We were surprised how cheap it is, without the membership, it actually makes it less than Zipcar.

We reserved a Cadillac for the day, and simply picked it up at the garage using the app to unlock the car.  On the way to St. Helena (about an hour and a half trip), we were thankful for the free 4g...although we had to call to get the network password.

After getting a bit of a late start, we went straight to lunch as soon as we got into town.  We had made a reservation at Farmstead, but after arriving a bit early we ended up just taking an available table on the patio. If you are ever in the area, go here. It is super tasty without the usual hefty wine-country price tag.  We suggest the cheddar biscuits (free if you check in on Yelp) and the Mac and Cheese!

After lunch we went tasting at some of the wineries. Between four of us, we split a couple of tastings (nice they let you do that). We took the day nice and slow, partially because we were full, and partially because none of us are big wine-drinkers.  Plus, Mal was DD, so was only taking a sip of each pour. We visited Hall Wines (love that Bunny Foo Foo statue), Opus One (they only make one wine a year, so a tasting is a full pour), and checked out the architecture but didn't taste at Del Dotto.

We wrapped up the day at Goose and Gander. This spot is super cute and cozy.  After being full all day, we decided to forgo traditional entrees. We had to try the duck fat fries, which is what drew us here to the first place, but these ended up not actually being our favorite part.  The octopus was so well done (and we usually don't like that texture) and beef tartar toast were both our surprise favorites.

It was a fun day, and it was so easy to drop off the car again.  Once we parked the car in the tiny garage spot (the most difficult part of the day), we simply marked our trip finished on the app!

Gift Guide - The Well-Groomed Man

Finally got around to doing a men's gift guide.  If you have a man in your life (dad, brother, bf) who is into fashion/grooming, or if you are trying to not-so-subtly hint, this guide is for you!

Some specific items we would like to mention:
The Foreo Luna 2 for men - FYI this is the same model as the Foreo 2 for Oily Skin - we've recently been trying out the Foreos, and it seriously makes you feel so much cleaner! Stay tuned for Whit's review, coming soon!

Cedar shoe trees - there isn't a point of having nice things (like dress shoes) if you aren't going to take care of them! Shoe trees might not the most exciting gift, but if he's not going to buy them for himself...do him a favor! Plus, cedar will keep his shoes smelling fresh(er).

Fancy socks (in general) - Much like a fun bag or shoes for a lady, bright fun socks are a way to dress up an otherwise basic outfit.  Plus a suit is always much more fun with a pop of color or pattern!

November Sun

On Whit: Privacy Please Romper (via Revolve), Rebecca Minkoff backpack (old), Quay Highly Strung Round Half Frame Sunglasses

Sorry, I'm still cleaning out my camera from Maui!  This romper is obviously something I can rarely wear in the bay area, especially with all the rain during the winter.  I caught a shopping bug and impulsively added it to my cart when it was on sale for under $40.  It became one of those items that sat in my closet for months that I dreamed of wearing one day and worried about never ever wearing.

Luckily, we we went to Maui in November.  This was something convenient for a day at the beach. I also didn't have to look like a bum afterwards when we went to eat.

Fur(la)

On Mallory: c/o Furla Mini Metropolis, Banana Republic Faux Fur Scarf,  H&M Trumpet Sleeve Blouse and Distressed Jeans (old), Seychelles Marquee Boots

Our old college roomie East was here over Thanksgiving, and we all went out shopping in downtown.  I had seen this scarf previously and was in love with the color, but was even more excited that it actually came in 4 colors! I made Whit and East try them on and we each ended up getting a different color.  Looking forward to forcing our fourth college roomie to get that last color the next time we see her.

I wanted to issue a small correction to Whit's post about Furla...you can get the Metropolis bag with interchangable flaps and bodies, but you have to buy the special pieces individually!  The ones we are wearing are sewn together, and cannot swap out!

Layered Grays

celine caty sunglasses

Photos by Ty

Snapped these photos quickly over Thanksgiving.  Peanut was super distracted by all our neighbors and refused to look at the camera. Corgis are so nosy.

Like I said on instagram, my Mom immediately made fun of my glasses when I put them on.  She giggled because they are so big...but I have to say they are smaller than the ones she used to sport in the 80s! I will admit that I look a little high-maintenance, but when I saw them on sale + extra percent off, I couldn't resist.  If you ever want to get sale alerts for stuff we link, you can visit our shopstyle page here and set them up!

#FurlaFeeling: Brunch in Peplum Plaid

On Whit: Zara Gather Waist Top, c/o Soko necklace (old but love all these here), Joie Barlow Suede Bootie (so comfortable and worth the investment!), c/o Furla Metropolis Mini Crossbody in Moonstone

Mal and I never have the time to have brunch on Thursdays since we work regular 9 to 5 schedules, but we couldn't miss out on visiting the Furla pop up store at Union Square today.  We had been eyeing some Furla bags online for a while so it was nice to finally see the collection irl.

Of course we decided to match.  We each picked the Metropolis mini crossbody in different colors.  I chose Moonstone, a light pink, to add some contrast and color to my wardrobe.  Most of my purses are neutral and Mal had inspired me in her Gucci Marmont to go for something different.  I'm loving how the color looks against the dark plaid top I'm wearing here.  One really cool feature is that you can swap the top flap of the purse for a different color or pattern!  Hmm..something to consider for the holidays...

Also, I am loving this Zara Gather Waist top that I got on Black Friday for $20.  The relaxed peplum style is super flattering (it covers some of that post-Thanksgiving weight) and the bow detail on the back is an adorable touch.  It's something appropriate for casual and formal occasions.  What are some of your favorite Black Friday finds this year?

Grommets and Lacing

I usually shy away from skirts that hit below the knee, but when I saw this on super-sale at Anthro, I decided there was no harm in trying it on.  It was the last one in store, and it was in petite so it felt like it was meant to be.  I think that the side slit also prevents it from being too stumpifying.

On a side note, FYI sometimes the product widgets where we link what we are wearing (like the one below) say items are sold out even though they are in-stock. For instance, the H&M shirt and the Bite Lip Crayons are still in stock in case you wanted to snap them up :).

Nothing feels more fall and cozy than a snood and jacket combo.  I'm loving the grey and forest green, and the popcorn and suede textures here.

Pleated Sleeves

On Mal: H&M Blouse with Trumpet Sleeves, No21 Tassel Leather Bag (sold out, bucket bag version here), Seychelles Marquee Suede Chelsea Booties via Gilt (scored with an extra 30% off), Levis jeans (old), Bite Matte Cream Lip Crayon in Glacé c/o Influenster.

A pretty basic outfit, but with a few updated twists...trumpet sleeves and tassels.

I had been seeing this top around Instagram, and couldn't believe when it was only 14.95 in-store (at the SF Powell Westfield).  Needless to say I couldn't snap it up fast enough.  I hope they come out with more colors...hopefully black so the danger of stains from dipping your sleeve in your food isn't constant.

INSPO // Embroidered Denim

Click image to go to source.

We love that embroidery and patches are back...and it just begs to be DIYed! We have been keeping our eyes out on some cute patches to dress up our own denim, but in case you would rather buy than DIY, some picks are below!
